FitDog Friday–A Weekend Hike
The kids are out of school now so I need things to tire them out so they don’t drive me crazy. I mentioned in another post about trying to get the 10 year old (definite indoor kid) out more. Well, with the oldest boy at his father’s for most of the summer and the little one in her school’s summer program, the 10 year old and I have some time together that we don’t normally have. We’ve been talking about camping and hiking. He seems to be pretty up for the camping part. We have a large tent that we used to set up in the back yard for the kids to have sleepovers with their friends, so I thought of setting it up and doing a camp out in the back yard to see how he does. We can get a fire pit going out there, have the dogs out with us, etc. I think it might help ease him into the idea of camping somewhere else. If I can be excited about it (my husband used to say my idea of camping was having no room service), there’s hope for him yet.
There’s a wildlife preserve not far from here that has several trails throughout. We’ve hiked there before, but only on the shorter trails. A longer trail is a few miles down the road from the short loop we usually do. I’ve been wanting to do this one for some time. I plan on doing it this weekend, probably tomorrow. I will be sure to take pictures.
Do you and your dog(s) have any outdoor weekend plans?
