Monday Mischief (Or Lack Therof) & Starmark Everlasting Treat Ball

I’m trying to get this post written in between doing various house chores and fighting the draw of just sitting still with my eyes closed and enjoying the magnificent silence.  It’s gloomy outside and all the dogs are asleep.  The little one is at her summer program and there are no other kids here.  I’m trying to make and stick to a house cleaning chart.  Between trying to write a book, keep up with the blogs, work on the etsy store, keep up with the dogs and the kids and my husband, I need charts.  I need lists.  I need things to keep me on the right track or I’m squirreling constantly.

I need a clone is what I need.  But until that glorious day, I just do what I can do and hope for the best.  I try to write in the (mid) morning because this is the time when I have completed the morning rounds and gotten everyone off to where they need to go, have fed everyone and this is when I most feel like writing.  It is when I am at my most creative.  Any other time I am either behind on something, have to go pick someone up, it’s getting close to dinner time, dishes are staring at me, laundry is calling, etc.  By the time kids are in bed I am so spent it’s hard to get anything creative out of me.

Meh, enough of that.  Anyway, today marks 4 days since Cairo’s surgery.  She is doing very well with being crated more than usual.  I bought her several new toys to hopefully help alleviate boredom.  One of them–a Nylabone–was gone in less than a minute.  On the way home from the store.  This one was a pleasant surprise:

Starmark Everlasting Treat Ball

The *Starmark Everlasting Treat Ball holds a variety of treats and inserts and is latex, vinyl and phthalate-free.  The treats and inserts themselves DO come in wheat/corn/soy free.  I have been pleasantly surprised that it has not been chewed into a million little pieces yet.  Cairo seems to enjoy it and it has kept her quiet and entertained in her crate.  In addition to the inserts shown in the photo above (which can be put on both the top and bottom of the toy and come in different flavors), you can also put treats inside.

I am always looking for toys that are durable and will hold the dogs’ attention for more than a few minutes at a time.  So far, this one seems to fit the bill.  I can honestly say I will buy more of these, and I don’t say that often.  I think they would be awesome for small pups, too, as they are learning to get around and explore and teethe.

In other news, Rama has seemed to accept her cone.  She moves around with it on and even ate with it on the other night.  Apparently itchiness such as this can be as a result of hormonal changes in pregnancy.  She has never had dry or flaky skin, has always had a very good omega 3 supplement in her food, and has no fleas.  She has never scratched at her face.  It is on the right side of her face from the ear all the way down to her throat.  She started to mess with the other side but I implemented the cone before she could get that side going.  I am going to give her an oatmeal bath today and hopefully that helps some.  She is on day 28 now from the first breeding but I have to wait until next week to take her in for an ultrasound to see if she is pregnant.  If I had a stethoscope handy I would be listening to her belly.  My regular vet is up the road and I might just pop in and bug him to take a listen.  Our repro specialist is a few hours away.  I am about to burst I am so anxious to find out!

So, other than needing her sandy (yay Florida), toy-fluff-filled crate cleaned out, Rama is doing well.  She will every now and then shuffle on over (we don’t call her Shuffleupagus for nothing!) and rub her head on me or “talk” to me, wanting to be let out or informing me that the water bowl in the dog room needs refilling.

There really isn’t any mischief to speak of yet today.  Stay tuned–the day’s not over yet!  I’m sure we’ll have some by this evening!
