Quarantine--How We're Dealing
I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I honestly am losing track of how long we've been social distancing. In the early days covid 19 hitting the news we were still going hiking, still going to parks, etc. We were keeping our distance from people, of course, but now as the time has gone on state parks are closed. A lot of the state forests have also closed to visitors after people started flooding local trails in groups, not keeping the required 6 feet apart.
Not social distancing
We have not taken the dogs anywhere, save walks in our own neighborhood or for rides in the truck. If I even think about heading out to an area that may still be open, I make sure that I know whether or not the space is wide enough to practice social distancing. A lot of trails aren't very wide. We are avoiding these.
The whole thing is a bit surreal. We are trying to stay upbeat and positive, religiously cleaning everything and only going out when absolutely necessary. One of our family members has an essential job so they are still going to work every day. Our hands are dry from constantly washing them. Appointments have been cancelled. The kids are doing their schoolwork virtually. We are ok, though, and everyone is healthy.
What it looks like working from home
Social Distancing Instead Of Socialization
Both Freya and Khan had just started their respective obedience classes when covid 19 began shutting everything down. Freya had a Puppy Kindergarten class under her belt and had been well socialized but Khan didn't get that opportunity before all this happened. He went to a few classes and got along very well with everyone, but my normal process of heavy socialization and training out in public places was disrupted. I am hoping that we won't have issues later on because of it. What can you do? It is what it is.
We've been ordering our groceries online, the dogs' food online and occasionally have gotten take out to support local businesses that are still open. I got my first order from Raw Feeding Miami, which you can see in the video below. Don't forget to like and subscribe to our YouTube channel to keep up with all the happenings around here.
We train all the time, not just in class, and have been doing so on our daily walks as well. I think the dogs are enjoying us being here more. I don't know if I can say the same of the people in the house. For some, it's getting to be a challenge. Even though my husband normally works from home, it's a bit different when you're told you have to. Occasionally when the kids were too loud he could head out to a local coffee shop or cafe to work for a bit. Now that isn't possible. Kids are here and kids make noise, which makes it difficult to work. We are all having to adjust.
Will Our Summer Travel Plans Even Happen?
This is something I've asked myself a lot lately. We just don't know. My heart aches for those who had just started their thru-hikes, only to have to get off trail due to the coronavirus. Some had planned for years and sold everything, even quitting their jobs and selling their homes. Our heartfelt prayers go out to the people dealing with a family member that is ill, those that are ill themselves and those who have lost someone close to them. I can't even imagine what these people are going through.
So we actually don't know whether or not our planned road trip will happen. Will things stretch on into summer? I may have to aim for next Spring, which was when I was planning a separate adventure, to celebrate my birthday. No one really knows what the future brings. I just can't wait to get out there. My soul has been in desperate need of some trail time for so long. It will just have to wait a little longer.
