The Mama’s Workout Journey: Update!
I haven’t updated my workout journey for a few months. Life has been hectic. December marked my fourth month working with a professional trainer, and even though we aren’t focusing on weight quite so much as measurements, I’ve lost just over twenty pounds and have dropped five pants sizes. My diet during the week has been focused on lean proteins, veggies and healthy fats. On weekends I relax the rules a bit, but I don’t go crazy. I’ve gone from having a venti latte every day to a tall three times per week, no whip and the lowest calorie one I can find. I’m on my way to lowering that even further until I can perfect a latte at home that tastes as good as Starbucks’ lattes. Baby steps.
I am still working out at the gym for one hour three times per week. I will be adding yoga back in the mix as soon as I can work it into my schedule. I feel so much better than I did when I started this journey. I was borderline diabetic and suffering from terrible depression, extreme fatigue and hand tingling and numbness. I am no longer on anti-depressants (the weight gain was unbearable and I truly don’t feel they helped) and haven’t had an episode of hand tingling/numbness for a few months. I’ve been working closely with my primary care doctor to monitor these and other conditions that we feel may have manifested because of the weight gain.
In December I hit the three month mark. After my second month measurements being so encouraging, I was a bit confused to find that nearly everything had improved except my waist measurement. It showed a backslide. I have been dealing with a lot of bloating (anything that goes into my mouth makes me bloat these days), and we feel that this may account for the odd number, as my pants size has continued to drop. No idea what happened, but it made me feel terrible thinking that after all that work I’d not only NOT improved but went backward. Ugh. An awful feeling.
Months 1 and 2
The following photos are month three and today. I need to get some shots of my back, arms and legs to show the development of those as well. It’s hard for me to duplicate just the same angle so forgive me if the photos aren’t the best. I will endeavor to get better shots this year.
I’ve had to get smaller sports bras because they were beginning to feel loose around month two, two-and-a-half. I am currently wearing a size ten jean. I am pleased with my progress so far and can’t wait to see what this year brings!
Month 3 and today
My trainer feels it will probably take a full year for me to get where I want to be. That sounds about right to me. I know I’ve come a long way, but there is still such a long way to go. I did, however, meet my goal of setting and sticking with a workout routine. Did you have any (health) goals that you feel were met this year? I’d love to hear some of your successes from 2015!
