Why You Need To Consider #InstinctRaw
Have you noticed these freezers full of interesting-looking pet foods seemingly popping up everywhere these days? From the large chain stores to the smaller specialty stores, the raw pet food movement is in full swing. Do you feel overwhelmed with all the information out there regarding raw feeding? What about bacteria? Are raw diets safe? Let’s take a look at a very cool product on the market right now, and address some of the concerns you might have when considering a raw diet for your dog.
This post is sponsored by Instinct® and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Instinct Raw but Walks With Rama only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Instinct is not responsible for the content of this article.
Having begun experimenting with home made diets back in the 90’s when there was little information out there, I learned a lot through trial and error. During the time I worked in veterinary hospitals, I got quite the education in how diet ultimately affects a dog’s health. When I began preparing my dogs’ meals myself, it was somewhat of a science experiment. I consulted veterinarians, dog breeders and dog enthusiasts from my training days, compiled what I’d learned and went from there. Preparing meals for your dog was somewhat of a novelty back then. Times have changed.
Perhaps you are already a raw feeder and are tiring of the seemingly endless chore of dog food prep. Instead of spending hours searching out markets from which to purchase all the necessary ingredients, thawing, chopping, grinding, blending, measuring, pre-packaging and freezing meals for the week, would you welcome something easier?
If you’ve ever wondered if a raw diet is better for your dog, you only have to ask someone who has made the switch. Some of the benefits of feeding raw include:
A reduction in smelly dog breath/dog odor
Solid waste is more condensed and has less odor
Coats are shinier
Eyes are brighter
Fewer vet visits per year
I demand a lot from my dogs. They are show dogs, hiking dogs, guard dogs and family dogs. Any one of these things demands optimal health at all times. Combine them and you really need a top of the line feeding program. Good muscle tone, energy level, glistening coat and healthy joints can all be traced back to a good diet. Where feeding dogs is concerned, raw is my preference.
So let’s say you are ready to give this raw-feeding thing a go. You like what you’ve seen and heard, and you want to try it but are a bit concerned about bacteria transmission. This is a common concern when people consider raw feeding. With proper cleaning and sanitizing of all food prep surfaces and bowls, you really don’t need to be any more concerned with raw dog food than you are with the food that you prepare for the rest of the family.
“I’m ready to go to the store, Mom!”
Stores right in your freezer.
There are so many varieties in the Instinct Raw line. What even more impressive to us is that 95% of the formula is a protein source (including organ meat and ground bone) and 5% is made up of fruits, vegetables and other ingredients. There are no grains or gluten. We settled on their Chicken & Tuna Formula. I suggest working the bag in your hands before opening (as you would a bag of frozen vegetables) just in case any product is stuck together. The pieces are a good size for most dogs. Each formula, however, is also available in larger medallions, patties and chubs. You can view the different sizes and varieties on their website.
Sassy wouldn’t stop licking the bag long enough for me to get a decent shot of her with it. Silly girl! That was one tasty bag!
Instinct Raw offers the quality of a raw diet with the convenience of a kibble. So what did my dogs think of it? Well, I decided to try it on two very different eaters. These two are also different ages. Make sure to check with your veterinarian with regard to how much you should feed you dog per day, as their nutritional requirements will differ with age and activity level.
I think it’s safe to say that Instinct Raw Bites are a huge hit! If you would like to try this food, check out the $3 off coupon here.
